(Warning!) That's dumb internet speed question I asking....
We subscribe to Comcast's 150/10 internet plan each month. I test my connection using FAST.com and Speedtest.net, which show speeds between 170-180 Mbps, higher than the advertised numbers. How did I achieve 20-30 Mbps more than what was listed?
ISPs may provide increased speeds or lower-cost options during off-peak times when network capacity is free.
They usually add a small extra layer of performance to keep speeds stable during peak times.
I receive around 560-590MB, though my 500MB plan is supposed to cover more. After upgrading to the 1000MB plan, I only get about 930MB... haha.
It seems the difference lies in hardware limits similar to a gigabit connection, and software limits like there being no 150 or 300 or 500 only 100 per gig in the network setup.
