I think thats on epyc rome and newer, naples for all i know doesnt seem to have this vendor lock, and also seems like the only one that even uses vendor lock is dell

Naples is already a mess with just one core, and adding more pain only makes things worse. It’s turning into a huge dump unless I can find an open-source option like the OEM Epyc Rome. If it isn’t vendor locked, I won’t even think about Epyc—unless I really need way too much power. If I ever get my hands on Epyc, I’ll definitely try to overclock it because a 64-core server processor would be insane. Haha, that sounds like a lot of fun! Now I just hope the X299 boards drop in price soon if I skip the 1366 model.
It was definitely my mistake. Sold on eBay, but I wasn’t sure the seller understood the terms. Even though I asked if it was locked as a vendor before purchasing, what came up was a locked listing. After returning and getting a refund, they changed the description to show it was indeed locked. I went ahead and bought another unit from a vendor claiming it isn’t HPE/Dell locked, hoping for a better outcome this time.
Be cautious: don’t expect clear answers if you see a POST. If your Debug 7 segment display shows errors, the codes likely won’t give useful details.
