I attempted to set up Windows 10 several times, and I prefer not to do a clean install since I don’t want to reinstall all the programs. Around 90% of the setup ends with the stopcode "critical process died." Studies suggest this issue can be resolved using sfc/scannow. The system would automatically revert back to Windows 7, and I ran sfc /scannow as soon as it appeared. According to the notes, the repair succeeded and damaged files were fixed. Even after that, running sfc/scannow repeatedly helps whenever new corrupted files appear. Below is just a partial version of the CBS log—let me know if you need the complete file so I can compress it for you.

It looks like you're suggesting a quick fix. Spending too much time looking into this issue wasn't ideal.

I completed the upgrade five years ago without issues, then a few months later the Windows update attempted to install and my PC failed to start. After a clean installation, I haven’t experienced any problems with Windows 10 or future updates again.
