On my laptop it’s slow—years pass before I can log in, even though the system was recently wiped. I’ve kept my desktop away from me because of that.

Windows updates offer little value to users. They can compromise the kernel, consume unnecessary resources, and slow down performance. If you're using a desktop behind a router, disable them right away after reinstalling Windows. No security patch will shield you from malware. The only situation where Windows Updates make sense is when your device is directly connected to the internet via a cable box—something most businesses do today.

I bring a strong background from the white hat community. If you believe Windows Updates will help you, please explain why. I’d only suggest upgrading when the OS itself has problems or when your system is heavily used online.
