Looking for a router to connect your VPS across multiple Datecenters using a Site-to-Site VPN with BGP. VyOS supports many routing protocols, and you prefer working with the command line interface.

Ubiquiti EdgeRouters are based on a modified version of VyOS. If you're considering one, I don't have prior knowledge of VyOS, though the EdgeRouters work well. Personally, I favor PFSense or Mikrotik RouterOS over that option.

You're focusing on a virtual router setup. I've learned about EdgeRouters and their recommendations. They offer virtual router solutions as well. You can evaluate Pfsense and Mikrotik in your VM to compare their performance.

For the virtual version of EdgeRouter, VyOS works well. PFSense can also be deployed in virtual form; I've used it regularly. Mikrotik RouterOS supports virtual deployment but requires a license.
