VRM temps for X570 chipsets (Gigabyte X570S UD & X570S GAMING X) using 5950X without overclocking...
I'm seeking a mainboard for my 5950x processor. I prefer the Gigabyte X570S or X570S GAMING X models, as they seem similar. My main reasons are the affordable price in my region and the availability of three M.2 slots (all at full speed). You can check these links:

The only drawback I have is that they claim high VRM temperatures. But I'm not sure if this applies only to overclocked chips or even regular ones. From reviews and tests it's hard to say for sure. I intend to run my 5950x in its default setting, without any overclocking. I plan to use an air cooler called DeepCool AK620 soon, and later I'll add an RTX 4090 (currently GTX 1070). This might increase the heat inside the case and possibly affect the VRM temps of the motherboard.
Based on your tests/reviews, I'm looking at the Gigabyte X570S UD. I want to know what VRM temperatures you can expect if I use it with the 5950x (non-overclocked), an air cooler, and basic case fans. Could someone confirm typical VRM temps for this board under those conditions? Also, what would be a safe range? Should I consider adding extra small fans on top of the VRM heatsinks? Thanks!
If you're not pushing the processor beyond its limits, then the Gigabyte X570S UD should perform well. I anticipate temperatures staying between 50-70°C. Normal safe VRM temps stay below 100°C, but I usually target under 80°C unless you're in a very controlled climate. If your room is warmer, say around 20°C, the components will run about 20°C higher, which is typical for most homes. Temperatures can vary by model, generally ranging from 90-120°C, with most hitting around 100°C. Adding fans over the VRM heatsink helps lower temps, though it's usually not needed unless you're overclocking. The 5950X draws up to 142W under full load, which is the maximum power limit by default. Most boards can manage that without issues. Instead of buying fans, it's often cheaper to invest a bit more for a model that avoids overheating. Since you mentioned no overclocking, are you worried about VRM temperatures? They can lead to throttling if too high, but a premium board should handle it without problems.
Thanks for the feedback! Those reviews made me anxious about VRM temperatures. I'm concerned about keeping them within limits, especially since my board is over six years old and I think its temps are already near 60°C. Any higher readings worry me a lot. Even if they're in the safe range, like 90-100°C, I'm worried about how that affects component life. I hope this setup can last about 5 to 6 years. Appreciate your understanding!
Additionally, I’d like to ask a few things: 1) I’ve heard the motherboard’s audio codec isn’t particularly strong (it uses a Realtek 887)... But if I’m not really into audio quality (my headphones cost around 10 USD), will it really matter while gaming or listening to music? Is this a noticeable issue? 2) One of the three M.2 slots is positioned below the area that will hold the large RTX 4090 cooler. Simply put, the cooler is so big it might completely block one of those slots—either fully or partially. What does this imply? First, I might skip installing an SSD cooler in that slot since it won’t fit. Second, there’s a high chance the SSD in that spot will overheat when the RTX 4090 is under heavy use, because the heat from the cooler could transfer to the SSD. Even without thermal throttling, it will still run extremely hot. 3) In my region, there are two versions of the “Gigabyte X570S UD”... One is just “X570S UD,” and the other is “X570S UD rev 1.0.”.. I don’t see it anywhere online. The site only lists “X570S UD rev 1.0.”.. I’m trying to buy the one without the “rev 1.0” because it’s cheaper and available from more shops in my country. What’s the difference between the base model and the rev 1.0? Please help!
