Hey there, I just put together my second PC and was trying to cut costs. I reused an old power supply that had been working well for five years, even though it got a bit wet from coffee. It was making noise and seemed to be a lower-end EVGA PSU, so I swapped it out for a Phanteks AMP 750W. At the same time, I noticed a whining sound near the CPU VRM area on my motherboard. Someone mentioned it could be from the VRM chokes. I changed from an Asus Prime H470-Plus to a Gigabyte Vision G Z490 in hopes it would fix the problem. The noise is still there, though it’s less intense now—it sometimes sounds like a printer grinding before stopping. I’m in a relatively quiet space, so it’s hard to ignore. Right now I’m using an i7 10700 (locked), and I’m wondering if that’s contributing to the issue. It’s confusing why the VRM is making these strange sounds. I’m pretty sure it’s not coming from the GPU causing coil whine.

I purchased my H310 roughly two years ago. It consistently produced a whine coil sound that becomes noticeable only when the fans are off, which has been okay so far.

I attempted to pinpoint the noise problems I’ve encountered. The setup wasn’t ideal, but it offers a basic reference. First clip shows issues near the CPU VRM, becoming more noticeable later, while the second highlights the exhaust fan. The fan might be faulty, possibly a new case, though the whining around every 30 seconds is noticeable. It’s unclear what’s causing it without overclocking. IMG_3237.MP4 IMG_3238.MP4

Coil whine is a typical occurrence. Coils experience current changes and spikes, whether or not you notice them. Occasionally the coils run quiet, other times they're noisy, and all I can say is: handle it...

Successfully resolved the problem. Disabled the C-states in BIOS and the noise decreased. The fan is still making some rattling, but it seems to be a faulty exhaust fan.
