VR experiences work across devices; pick the best headset for Black Friday deals.
I’m searching for a VR headset to purchase this Black Friday. I’m unsure which type is best. (The deals I found are the top options for Black Friday 2017, though some might be limited to physical stores.) HTC Vive starts around $600, including accessories. Office Depot offers an Oculus Rift version from $350 with games and controllers. Best Buy has a Windows Mixed Reality set for $300 plus accessories. Microsoft’s version is priced at $300 plus PSVR upgrades. Dell’s model is available for $200 with extra perks. Target and Walmart have current stock options.
For my needs, I prefer a PC VR system that isn’t tied to PSVR. Vive and Rift support many games, but I’m not sure about Windows Mixed Reality’s capabilities. Steam VR claims cross-platform play, but I’m uncertain if it actually works for most titles. Anyone know which VR devices can run games across platforms, and what performance Windows Mixed Reality delivers?
Not really contributing to the discussion but... honestly, I miss my Vive a lot. I had to relocate to a smaller space and didn’t have a place to set it up. I don’t think I played a standard game while using it. But I had a dedicated room and my own Vive for me and my partner... that’s the situation. Right now, I’d struggle to switch to Oculus with an extra camera unless I tried it personally. Still, tracking with Vive was perfect if configured right. I just enjoy VR... Take care!
Vive and Rift are solid choices. I haven’t used the MR headsets yet, so I’m not sharing my thoughts on them.
The Xbone is impressive, but right now it's not worth it. There aren't many solid VR titles available.
I don't believe it's excellent; it's merely acceptable. PC and PS cover everything you need for the games. Xbox falls short with features, pricing, and exclusives. I feel VR is fine to own now. It's been available for a while, and both games and platforms are reliable.
There are numerous horror VR games available. The pricing is reasonable, and the experiences can be enjoyed in short sessions.
