Hello! Your setup sounds solid. Converting it into a VPN station with direct ISP connection and looping through a router is definitely possible. Let me know if you need suggestions!

You're suggesting all your internet activity go through a VPN, which might not be necessary. RPI4 can achieve speeds around 50 Mbps with OpenVPN if configured properly.

Would you prefer a VPN that covers every internet connection or one that links to your router’s devices from anywhere globally?

Sure, I'd like to connect my router directly using hardware methods so all devices join the VPN.

It won’t alter your visible IP address when connecting to other servers, and it won’t secure data leaving your home network.

What model and firmware version do you own? Certain routers, particularly those supporting third-party software, can be set up as VPN gateways, allowing all data to travel through the VPN without needing a dedicated app. When referring to VPN services like PrivateInternetAccess, check their setup guides for router configurations. Be aware that encrypting or decrypting VPN traffic demands significant CPU power, which can reduce overall performance and slow down speeds. Advanced firewall devices such as pfSense or Untangle typically feature more efficient processors, and you might even enhance them by custom building your own solution.

I own an Ubiquiti EdgeMax device. It supports connecting to a VPN, though the connection quality isn't strong enough for optimal performance.
