Certainly, it reflects a shift similar to how early internet users had to pay for static IP addresses, but gradually in the UK (and elsewhere), top ISPs now provide one automatically or charge a small fee. Unlike dial-up times, most people are consistently online, so dynamic allocation doesn’t limit you to fewer IPs than your customer base. Personally, as someone who isn’t an online gamer, it’s easy to overlook that many users remain unaware they’re behind CG-NAT. Online gaming remains a niche among broadband connections, and even fewer run servers at home. This can be problematic because technical issues often go unnoticed when people rely on server-based setups, which can cause problems without clear explanations. It’s a bit disappointing that services like Skype have changed from peer-to-peer to server-based setups, making stable connections harder for many users.
