Hello, your A88X-G45 board has no M.2 slots, but you're considering a PCIe adapter and an SSD. It should work if the adapter is compatible with your system. The forum link you found mentions compatibility concerns, so double-check the specifications before purchasing to ensure the latest BIOS support.

Consider using an adapter. It wouldn't be worthwhile; this setup is quite outdated. I'd invest in a better CPU, more RAM, and a new motherboard instead.

It should function, though it’s highly likely outdated and won’t start properly.

My old computer is in good hands with my nephew, but I'm considering upgrading from a 2.5 SSD to an M.2 drive. Since he doesn’t play heavy games like Roblox or GTA V, and the current setup only has an HDD, I’m looking for a more affordable way to boost performance.

It won't make a difference with such an outdated device; it'll be too slow to take advantage of NVMe's speed. SATA is simpler.
