I just tried the latest Minecraft update and wanted to see if I was alone in thinking it’s awful. The combat bar is turned off by default (at least for me). When I realized I needed to turn it on, the setting was either near the crosshair or in the toolbar. On a 27-inch screen, placing it in the toolbar makes it hard to see unless you scroll all the way down—then the crosshair looks terrible and is completely invisible when viewing stone. I’m also frustrated that dual-wielding weapons aren’t supported (unless someone creates a mod for it). I’d like to be able to block with your sword again, just like before, and if you have an item in your hand it should remove the blocking ability. That would make using one sword more practical. Also, why let players swing until the cooldown ends? It would be clearer and give better feedback than that gray bar below the crosshair. Anyone else have thoughts on this?
1.9 is essentially a low-quality patch. Given how disliked Notch is by most Mojang employees, it seems possible they intended to make this update intentionally poor as a reaction. As someone with deep knowledge of competitive play, I’d note that roughly 95% of the PvP features have been eliminated thanks to the hit timer. Even if the timer is removed, I won’t revisit 1.9 factions because of other major issues like the God Apple adjustments.
I once created PVP maps for the Xbox 360 but eventually lost interest. When I switched to PC Minecraft, it became too repetitive. The only activities I engaged in were designing houses, honestly.
But just to clarify, pvp involves several factors. I won't discuss details like ping or packet loss, but at a basic level, high-level pvp focuses on the knockback you receive. If your timing is perfect, you can force your opponent to miss even if they're aiming directly and reacting quickly. This is known as combo-ing. I understand that strafing matters, but when you face top-tier players, combos become more effective. That's not the whole picture of pvp, though. I'd need a lot more time to cover everything. I'll share a video with two skilled players fighting in ranked matches so you can see it in action. EDIT: I changed the format to keep it concise and engaging.
