Viewing the on-board graphics of the ryzen 7 9800x3d
Good Morning, All,
If you don't have a dedicated GPU, are the on-board graphics of the ryzen 7 9800x3d turned on by default or does it need a BIOS adjustment?
On Intel it's set automatically, but this is my first AMD build.
TIA
Larry
Thanks for the update, COLGeek! When constructing a new setup, I always configure it to start fully before adding my GPU. This way, the GPU is removed if any issues arise during troubleshooting! Larry
Typically, you can't turn off built-in graphics without having separate graphics software installed.
True. If someone began with a dGPU and altered the BIOS settings, I believe they might keep those changes even after removing the dGPU. Various discussions exist about whether disabling iGPUs enhances performance, but I don’t support that approach unless the system is actively relying on it.
Standard configuration states that iGPU is active by default and cannot be turned off unless a dedicated GPU is installed. When a separate GPU is added, the built-in one is turned off automatically. To keep both options on, you must modify BIOS settings. Removing the separate GPU will cause iGPU to turn on by itself. Therefore, it isn't feasible to install a separate GPU, disable the integrated one, remove the separate GPU and still have iGPU disabled without having the dedicated GPU present.
