Linux would feel like using a treadmill inside a minivan to reach your destination.

VLC completely. This ensures you won’t need to master a different app interface when switching to Linux in the coming two weeks.

I use dedicated hardware for myself—whether it's a real Bluray player, ShieldTV, or the apps on my TV. Playing on my computer is usually not the best experience.

You're asking why dedicated GPUs are better even though you can handle 1080p at 3x speed without them. It's about performance optimization and efficiency. Dedicated GPUs are designed specifically for graphics tasks, offering better power management, higher clock speeds, and specialized features that can squeeze out more frames per second. While you might get decent results with your current setup, dedicated hardware generally provides a smoother and more consistent experience, especially under demanding conditions.

Certain offerings restrict the bitrates and resolutions on computers because they are simpler to exploit or pirate.
