VideoStudio Question - some points to consider
Searching for an easy-to-use video editor, I’ve been using Video Pad on my Win 7 system. After switching to Windows 10 about a year ago, I’m trying to find a more affordable option. VideoStudio Pro has appeared in my searches several times. I really appreciate Video Pad’s dual-screen layout and straightforward design, but it seems most editors no longer offer this feature.
For VideoStudio Pro, I have a few questions:
1. Are older versions available for download or purchase? The official site lists only the latest version, priced at $75 (Australian dollars). I’m mainly interested in editing in medium to high definition formats like avi and mp4. Features such as fast/slow playback, zoom/crop, mirroring, and basic color correction (like temperature, gamma, hue, contrast) would be useful. Simple transitions like cross fades and zoom fades—especially fade-ins or fades through black or white—would be nice. A version from 7+ years ago would still work just as well.
2. Does the 30-day trial of VS Pro let you fully render a video? Some trials restrict formats or features, which is frustrating.
Additionally, anyone know if there’s another simple editor under $60 that offers these core capabilities? Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, I'll check that one.
I reached out to VideoStudio to find out if the Trial permits an output file to be rendered. Some offer this, while others don't include a watermark in the video.
Customer Service was very helpful—just the information provided matched what's listed on the site: "Some features are not available on the trial version." It seems they're using this as a tactic to push you toward installing the Trial before moving forward with a purchase.
I have been working with VSDC for years and it has proven to be very effective. It's available for free for most tasks or you can opt for paid expert features if you need more advanced options.

Thank you for your feedback. I'll consider it and revisit the matter. I'm looking for a straightforward editor with only essential features. It's proving hard to locate such tools, even with Open Shot, which is too complex for beginners needing simplicity. I still remember the ease and speed of the early Video Pad (for XP and Win 7), despite its minor issues.
