I assembled this system for the first time and accidentally damaged the PCIe 16x slot, now it needs to be placed in the lower, less powerful PCIe port. I’m worried this might be linked to the VGA indicator light. Is there a way to reset or fix the latch? Motherboard: B650 X AX gaming GPU: 7800XT red devil
Even without the latch, you can still install your card. Simply place it fully in the top slot and secure it into the case as usual. It should stay stable, handling occasional bumps or light movement without issues. The main concern becomes if you transport the computer over long distances, but it should remain safe as long as the board stays upright.
The latch is made of plastic, and the motherboard can't detect its absence. The main issue is that the end of the board lacks a securing mechanism for the slot. If you still have the latch piece, you might be able to reinsert it using your fingers. It should fit by snapping at a few pivot points built into the slot. The pins inside the PCIe slot appear fine, suggesting it likely functions properly.
Back then slots on the motherboard didn't require clips, everything functioned perfectly, the clip wasn't necessary. Do you still have that missing component, just place it back into the slot?
