I recently switched from a 5600X to a 5800X3D and noticed much higher CPU temperatures than anticipated, especially with a full custom loop and two 360 mm radiators. Below are my temperatures across various workloads. Could any of you X3D users confirm if these values align with typical behavior? Idle (~2% load): 42°C Light gaming: ~60°C Gaming: ~70°C CPU-intensive: ~90°C Cinebench R23 at full load: ~90°C The Cinebench reading was the one that raised my concerns. Although it stays near 90°C, HWiNFO64 confirms it doesn’t throttle and maintains around 4.2 GHz. All cores remain between 85-90°C during Cinebench. This seems normal? Yes, I verified the waterblock mount and paste application; I even re-applied once to ensure good contact. At the time, I was using standard BIOS settings without DOCP enabled.
The system is operating close to the performance of an Intel laptop processor in a poorly cooled setup. It's clear the maximum power draw is around 140W, significantly higher than previous generations at 65W. The heat generation is expected and normal for this configuration.
That works well since the Intel laptop operates at 0.5Ghz while the Ryzen handles over 4Ghz
It's really frustrating. It still performs well but doesn't manage to shut down properly. It maintains a baseline speed of at least 3.3ghz, reaching up to 4.2ghz if needed. However, this comes at the cost of significantly reduced battery life. As a 30W processor, pushing it hard drains the battery quickly—about 75 minutes of usage before it's depleted.
What is regarded as typical depends on the specific test conditions. This refers to the voltage measurement obtained during a cinebench experiment.
It seems the CPU might be overheating, which usually points to issues with voltage or a faulty design.
