I was considering a new upgrade to an MSI Radeon RX 5500 XT Gaming X Dual-Fan with 8GB GDDR6 PCIe 4.0 card, but I’m unsure if the CPU and motherboard will work together. My setup includes: a PC with an ASRock B450M PRO-4 CPU running at 3.70 GHz, two 8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX RAM modules at 2133 MHz, and a power supply that’s not specified but presumably under 400W. The main worry is the motherboard supports PCIe 3.0 while the GPU requires PCIe 4.0.

I’m worried about whether it will function properly without problems. Since the board runs PCie3.0 and the GPU uses PCie4.0, the differences between these versions might impact performance. If it does work, the GPU speed may be reduced, but launching a game should still be possible.

PCIe remains backward compatible and the device won't consume the entire PCIe 3.0 bandwidth. Since it's physically connected as an 8x PCIe 4 interface, you'd likely experience marginally improved speed on a PCIe 4-compatible board (the 4GB version may still lag).

I believe everything is okay. My friend actually uses the same board (R5 3600 for CPU, suggested if you can't afford it, much better CPU) and a Sapphire Pulse 5700 XT. It functions perfectly. I assembled it for him three months ago and it's still working.

Everything looks good. This card won’t even reach the PCIe Gen 3.0 bandwidth! Works backward.

The 650W PSU should manage the combined power needs of GPU and CPU, but ensure it meets your specific requirements.

Likely around 30 to 50 percent capacity.
