I managed to remove all 4x m.2 screws and standoffs from my 2x ASUS motherboard (B250). I tried to take a standoff from a Gigabyte board, but it didn’t fit. The single-sided NVMe drive works without one, though it’s not ideal. I’m considering buying a proper standoff to avoid losing them again. Anyone know what ASUS uses for this? Why isn’t it more standardized? I’d suggest everyone mount the standoff and screws to their boards to prevent losing them like this.
I suspect ASUS would offer you a free one if you informed them your motherboard lacked a screw and standoff. Of course, that wouldn<|pad|> to act like that would be unkind.
They might still send them for free despite admitting they’re losing the standoffs. For ASUS, each one is essentially worth less than a penny because they purchase them in huge quantities. The shipping expense would likely exceed the cost of the part itself. Some businesses will do it, others won’t, but most will probably offer the OP a chance to buy something.
