I need to purchase 16GB of RAM for my Ryzen 7 3700X system. After reviewing some initial information, I see that memory frequency significantly affects gaming performance with Ryzen chips, with an ideal range around 3600MHz. I’m considering two similar options: G Skill Trident Z Neo 3600C16D-GTZN and G Skill Trident Z Neo 3600C16D-GTZNC. I’ve also learned that better timings can provide more advantages over faster memory, so I plan to adjust the timings using a Ryzen DRAM calculator. Regarding the Samsung B-Die, I’m uncertain but believe the GTZN model includes it, while the GTZNC uses a Samsung SK Hynix die. If I load XMP profiles or manually tweak the timings, how much improvement can I expect? Would it be worth the extra cost for tighter timings?
I’ve already spent a lot on memory and spent hours fine-tuning the timings. It’s not worth it anymore. Adding more effort for tighter speeds doesn’t justify the cost. Still, it’s your money and your time—there’s some value here if you’re willing to invest. Memory overclocking can be really tedious and frustrating, but I’m hooked on it.
The specifications at 3600 16-16-16 are excessively restrictive for factory voltages to remain solely Samsung B-die. Unless it offers a substantial price advantage, it won't provide good value.
Collect these parts, boost the voltage, configure CL14 settings. You can adjust other parameters later. Previously, upgrading from 2-3% to 15 dollars was a solid gain. Now it's only a small increase—around 3-5% for the 3600-4000 range, with a bit more for Zen 2.
If you're not after RGB, this appears to be the top value for performance right now. I usually suggest b-die if you enjoy experimenting. You'll find far more enjoyment adjusting b-die compared to other options. You can achieve better clock speeds across the entire system.
