Hello, I’m setting up a basic home networking hub using Windows file sharing. I’ve connected two hard drives and several SSDs to the local network. Although it’s only a 1 gigabit connection, speeds vary from decent (around 80 MB/s) to almost nonexistent (1–5 MB/s). During testing, traffic was light, so I checked for bottlenecks by moving data between SSDs (SATA → NVMe 3.0). This setup isn’t a RAID 0 NVMe4.0 but should handle a 1 gigabit switch easily.

I’m using:
- *BT home hub 6* (upgrading to a NETGEAR D7000-200UKS Nighthawk AC1900)
- *NETGEAR GS305* (5 port Gigabit Ethernet Switch)
- *MACHINE 1* – B350 MSI Pro, R5 1600, 16GB RAM, 2400MHz, various drives, 1 gigabit port (gaming rig)
- *MACHINE 2* – B550 MSI Tomahawk, R7 3700, 16GB RAM, 3600MHz, NVMe4.0 & 3.0 ports, 2.5Gb port (current gaming rig)

Both are running on the latest Windows 10 Pro. The main issue I see is that both devices seem to be sharing the same switch with just a single CAT5e connection to the router. I prefer Windows for simplicity since I’m not familiar with Linux. If anyone has advice or notices something wrong, I’d really appreciate it! Peak speeds were around 80 MB/s, while lows dropped to about 10 MB/s.
