Valve and Steam conceal the DoS assault.
First discovered on this site... a link to an article from TechReport. Today we’re sharing another piece from our colleagues at TechReport. Most Steam players know about the inconsistent performance during Valve’s sales event. Sadly, the troubles on Christmas weren’t due to fans—rather, they stemmed from a denial-of-service attack. The situation worsened because Valve’s handling of the incident added to the chaos. Near the time of the outages, Valve claimed a configuration update led to caching errors, causing random page displays for others. They said the issue persisted for roughly an hour. Details about the change or its timing remained unclear. Valve later clarified in a statement that they adjusted caching settings to counter the attack, but a second adjustment later disrupted traffic for logged-in users.
It seems you're asking about a missing cover. Could you clarify which item or context you're referring to?
The caching problem occurred after they faced back-to-back DoS attacks.
I went here to address the issue, but it appears Valve faced a problem and made an incorrect choice afterward... no cover-up here, sorry!
It seems you're pointing out that your own post about steam appears to be a distraction. The reference to "In the first link" suggests you're trying to steer attention elsewhere.
I believe if an event occurred and the person responsible was slow to respond, I’d call it blowing smoke.
