Hey there, so I'm dealing with an Asus Strix Z270F running an i7 7700K. The motherboard voltage is pushing around 1.33-1.34V under heavy load, which feels a bit too high. I've adjusted the core voltage in BIOS, but it doesn't stick when I boot into Windows. Setting it to static also doesn't help. It looks like any tweaks I make in BIOS aren't taking effect. I have the newest BIOS version—am I missing something in the settings that override everything?

You're adjusting the voltage levels. If you set them too low and the system detects a mismatch, it may revert to default settings. For Intel Skylake and Kaby Lake models, 1.330 to 1.340V is within a safe range.

I understand they should be safe, but I believe going lower is better. I tested 1.25v and it didn’t work. The issue seems to be related to XTU settings—it functions when changed there, but I have to restart XTU each time I boot. I suspect a BIOS-related problem. It was stable at 1.22 as well. The voltages displayed in BIOS still appear, but they aren’t being applied.

I understand they should be safe, but I believe going lower is better. I tested 1.25v and it didn’t work. Low voltages are often seen as undervoltage, so you'll need to tweak more than just the CPU core voltage and probably turn off Turbo Boost. Just because you believe something will work better doesn't guarantee it does. Your current voltage isn't very high, so I'd keep it as it is. Personally, I'd go for overclocking, but that's your choice.

I'm aiming for lower voltages, not a full overclock. The original settings worked fine at 4.8V, so I'm keeping that stable. Just looking to reduce the temperature for now—it's optional but nice to have.

Investigate undervolting techniques for the 7700k, as adjustments extend beyond merely changing the CPU voltage.
