Value of Games
I regret spending over thirty dollars on a computer game, regardless of how many hours I invest. Back when I played on the console, I could afford sixty dollars for a title, but now switching to PC has altered my perspective. I tend to wait for discounts before purchasing costly games.
I spent 150 hours on bf3 and landed it for just six dollars in a modest bundle.
It's not only about how long you played, but also how much you enjoyed the experience. I spent 30€ for 999 and it was definitely a good value, even though the game only lasted a few hours. I finished Shovel Knight in just five hours, but those hours felt like pure fun. A short game can still be valuable because it leaves a lasting impression and brings back memories of the story and enjoyment.
It comes down to how much quality matters to you. If it's a solid game with good story, gameplay, and graphics, I’d enjoy playing it multiple times even if it takes 10-20 hours at NZ$40-60. Those are rare, but they’re worth it. For single-player, that time frame feels perfect. Longer sessions (60-80 hours) seem to indicate more focus on quantity over quality, which isn’t ideal for me. I’d prefer co-op options so I can spend time with friends. Wolfenstein was the latest title I spent over $40 on (~NZ$45) and felt it delivered value despite the short playtime. On PvP multiplayer, I might need more than 50-60 hours because these games emphasize replayability rather than content depth. Most games in this range are around $25, like The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, which I found reasonably priced.
