For this setup you'll require a public IP address. https://www.whatsmyip.org/ You must also forward the specified ports through your router. 137 udp, 138 udp, 139 tcp, 445 tcp Remember that using your public IP makes you dependent on your home internet connection everywhere. When accessed locally, you're limited to your network. Opening it up globally could benefit from hiding the "public" part of smb.conf and turning off guest access.

I didn't enable guest access, but I can view all folders on the network. To limit it to just documents, you can select only that folder for now.

Remove the smb.conf configuration related to homes and adjust permissions accordingly. Add a [mysharename] comment specifying the share path, user restrictions, and security settings. Follow the Arch Wiki guide for further reference.
