Hello everyone, I’m trying to figure out the best way to move forward with my HP Pavilion p6235uk PC. It was bought in 2010 and now I’m planning to switch to an SSD while keeping the old 640GB HDD for backup storage. After reaching out to both HP and Microsoft, they didn’t provide much help, but I do have a 5-year-old system, so I’m not expecting much support for such an old product.

I found out that my license is an OEM license. If I were using a Windows 7 Home Premium ISO from Digital River, could I activate Windows with the OEM license from the sticker on the case? Also, do I need to install Windows and other bundled programs on the SSD? Would having two activated Windows versions on separate drives connected to the same motherboard cause any problems? As long as I reformat the old HDD before reconnecting to the internet, should that be okay? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Generally, if your COA code matches Windows 7 Home Premium, you can use the ISO from Digital River. Online activation might not work—if that happens, contact the number on the screen and activate by phone. Avoid mentioning a new storage drive during the process.

Thank you for your feedback! Your key functioned correctly in the Windows activation window, and you didn't need to use the phone activation.
