He relied on Wi-Spy from Metageek to understand wireless interference sources. This device and its software come with a higher price tag. The cheaper homemade option didn’t suggest any enhancements. All the work involves diagnostics, so you handle the analysis yourself. Next, invest in a signal booster for the cellular network you wish to improve coverage.

He mentioned at around six minutes that you can start with something as cheap as twenty dollars for an SDR or software radio. This equipment often uses free software to handle tasks like Wi-Fi analysis, amateur radio operations, and even setting up your own GSM network. He emphasized it's all in Linus' voice, not just diagnostics, and noted the hardware price is around twenty bucks compared to hundreds for a signal amplifier in his area.

I believe Linus is talking about setting up your own GSM network rather than expanding an existing one, such as for testing or experimentation purposes (for example, when designing an RF chamber).
