I’m heading off on vacation and set up War Thunder on my laptop to stay in the game. I encountered some odd problems while testing. Here are the details:
Specs:
- Processor: HP-15dw0xxx
- OS: Windows 10 Home
- CPU: Core i7-8565U
- GPU: Intel UHD 620
- RAM: 8GB DDR4 (previously 16GB, damaged by water)
- Storage: Used to be 16GB, now 8GB
Performance:
- Runs smoothly at about 50 FPS with minimal graphics settings.
- Temperatures stay normal and never exceed 90°C.
- First 5 minutes of gameplay look fine.
- After a few seconds in-game, GPU usage drops to just 1%.
- Alt-tab back to desktop restores usage to around 20%.
- Restarting the game brings it back to 1% after a short time.
Troubleshooting:
- Power settings are set to max.
- Restarting the computer fixes it temporarily.
- Only restarting the game resolves the issue quickly.

I'm just starting with PCs, but it could be a virus using your GPU for mining. Consider running an antivirus scan or updating Windows, BIOS, GPU, and CPU drivers.
Launch the command prompt, elevate privileges, input sfc /scannow, wait a few minutes for the scan, then run DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth. After completion, execute sfc /scannow again and restart the system.
Attempt to increase your electricity consumption by opening the control panel, enabling the open system and security settings. Then, configure the power options to generate a high-performance power plan. Name it clearly so everything functions consistently. Create it now and start using it.
This situation is improbable as it's the first time using Windows and integrated graphics aren't supporting mining. I've also adjusted the power settings, but the problem persists.
Perhaps I discovered something on Google that could help. Resetting the GPU is possible. Open Device Manager, go to 'Display Adapters', right-click your GPU and select 'Uninstall'. Restart your computer, and it should automatically reinstall the drivers. This was noted on February 8, 2022.
