for some odd reason, my new wifi adapter is only delivering about 2mb/s, while I have a 200mbit connection. It comes with a fairly long antenna (TP LInk Archer T3 Plus), so I’m curious if that’s related to it being a usb adapter even though it supports 3.0. The router is on the ground floor and my computer is on the first floor, yet my phone still manages 125mbps despite weak signal. This is confusing for me—even my router works well, giving around 80-100mbps. Both devices are dual band, and my PC’s signal is better than mine. I’ve also installed the latest drivers, but I’m not sure what might be causing the issue.
I’ve faced similar problems before. Past experiences with my Wi-Fi routers suggest these steps: A. Update the router’s firmware to the latest version. B. Use an older firmware version, as newer ones can introduce speed limitations. C. Verify that the Ethernet cable connecting the router to the modem is properly plugged into the correct port (a common oversight). D. Consider using a range extender for Wi-Fi coverage. These might not be perfect fixes, but they’ve worked for me in the past.
These adapters usually don’t deliver peak performance, but I think the speed seems too limited. My initial thought would be to verify that all required drivers and firmware are properly installed, especially for internet-related tasks. Since you’re using a USB 3.0 adapter, which port on your motherboard supports it?
front panel, performance improved significantly compared to before, though it's not quite what I was expecting.
