Hello, I've set up a 4K TV with HDMI only as my main display and a second HDReady screen using just VGA input. I'm trying to keep the graphics card out of this configuration to reduce noise and heat. My Z170 motherboard runs an i7-6700K CPU, and I have two ports: DisplayPort and HDMI. I connect the HDMI to the TV, which works well with a clear, sharp image at 60Hz. When I switch to the VGA adapter and cable for the second screen, it appears but the picture quality drops significantly compared to before. It also flickers and restarts after a few seconds, then restarts again after another half hour. The refresh rate drops to around 29Hz. Could this setup still function? Maybe using the DP-to-VGA adapter isn't the best choice? I want to retain the second monitor for audio EQ visuals. Thanks in advance for your advice, Martin.

The DP->VGA conversion shouldn't pose a problem, maybe due to iGPU limits. It's also curious it supports 4K60 on HDMI, while Intel claims otherwise: https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/...0-ghz.html

I noticed that difference, but the following line indicates another possibility. It might be useful to try a 24 Hz or 1080p display.

Yes, but the supported resolution is 3840 x 2160, not 4096x2304. I really need that to function smoothly at 60Hz and 24hz, otherwise it feels like I’d have to adjust how I run it. I sold my GTX 960 to a friend because I realized I couldn’t maintain the performance I wanted.

I understand. (In fact 4096 is considered 4k, but that's not important here.) I'm not suggesting it's the final answer; this is just a way to test. By doing this, we can determine if it relates to available maximum bandwidth or if the problem lies elsewhere.

I was completely using 4K60Hz and I’m restarting now because I had to take out the second screen. Makes sense to check it out. I was searching online but haven’t seen anyone try this setup before. Thanks again, I’ll share the results once I’m back home.
