Using a KVM switch to connect unstable USB devices
Using a KVM switch to connect unstable USB devices
I recently acquired a StarTech SV231DPDDUA2 to link two monitors and a collection of USB devices to both my work and home computers. The USB accessories are occasionally losing connection only on the home PC. It seems like the mouse polling is extremely slow, keys may freeze or stop responding entirely, or neither the mouse nor keyboard functions properly. The KVM offers four USB ports: one for a mouse, one for a keyboard, and two general USB hubs. StarTech’s troubleshooting tips recommend using non-specific ports for these problems, but nothing has resolved the issue. I’ve swapped in various gaming mice and keyboards as well (mostly high-performance models). Windows sometimes emits a repeated USB disconnect/connect alert whenever I switch the KVM to the problematic machine. Occasionally, when I move between PCs, the keyboard functions perfectly, but the mouse remains unreliable. Once the switch is made to the work PC, everything operates smoothly. I’ve checked the peripherals directly—everything works without issues. I’ve also verified cables, USB controllers, and even updated Windows, drivers (USB and chipset), flashed the BIOS, and adjusted power settings in Device Manager. Still unclear what to attempt next. The machine specifications are: Windows 10 Home 64-bit (Build 19042), Sabertooth Z170-A (BIOS 3802, latest), Intel i7 6700 2x4GB DDR4 (XMP disabled), and an EVGA GeForce GTX 970 with Corsair RM 550x.
I'm facing the same problems with this KVM switch too. Have you come across any solutions before?
I'm facing the same problem with this KVM too. Have anyone discovered a fix? It functions perfectly on my work MacBook, but now I'm experiencing repeated mouse and keyboard disconnections every few minutes only on my home Windows 10 PC. I've tried changing USB ports, using different mice and keyboards, updating BIOS, reinstalling Windows, and even wiping and reinstalling drivers. My PC specs are: Windows 10 64-bit, Asus z170-A, Intel i7 6700k, 2x16 DDR4 GTX 980Ti, EVGA 850w PSU.
