You confuse me.
Let's break this down.
He has a headset (headphones that have a Mic on them)
And just a pair of headphones (no Mic)
And since he doesn't have a dual port he wants to plug in one for mic and other for audio?
First of all, you don't plug the one with a Mic into the headphone jack and you dont plug the one WITHOUT a Mic into a microphone port.
Lastly, he can just buy one of these and use the headset for its intended purpose of both mic and sound.

Green is audio, and pink/red is Mic.

Headphones connect to devices via cables, transmitting sound and sometimes voice. Separate mics and audio jacks exist within headphone designs. Combining them requires adapters – one converts a single jack to two, allowing connection of both mic and audio sources simultaneously. Compatibility depends on device support for dual-port connections.

If both have Mic then both are headsets.
Please be more specific about the devices plug. Are both of them 3.5mm?
What you are describing I don't believe is possible.
He just needs to get that splitter I linked and plug the headset into it then plug the two end cables into their respective ports on the pc
