I found my mom’s old Asus Eee PC R105D with an Intel Atom N455 chip and quickly swapped its slow hard drive for a 256 GB Crucial SSD. From the start, I faced two main problems: the built-in mouse and trackpad stopped working. The keyboard and trackpad worked fine in the BIOS, but once the OS loaded they appeared to the system but didn’t respond. I tested various operating systems—Bodhi Linux, Windows Vista, and the original OEM Windows 7 Starter—and installed all necessary drivers, yet nothing improved. To check for hardware faults, I opened the laptop and reinserted the keyboard and trackpad ribbon cables, but the issue persisted. Curiously, both devices functioned properly when the laptop was in sleep mode, but reset to normal operation as soon as it woke up again—bringing me back to the same situation. I also applied the latest BIOS update hoping it would fix things, but it didn’t help. Personally, I enjoy working with older systems, so this project is a hobby and side endeavor. I’d really appreciate your interest and time for this. Regards
They probably require particular drivers. I’d leave the original drive in place, boot it up, and use DoubleDriver to pull out the drivers before installing them elsewhere. Copying the original drive to the SSD might also work.
The issue is that I'm no longer in touch with my mother (divorce), and the laptop's password isn't something I remember. Could I possibly link the hard drive to another laptop using SATA and connect it via USB to retrieve the necessary drivers?
Maybe there are no suitable tools available, and locating the right files could be challenging. It might help testing it during the latest setup, as it could uncover options. https://snappy-driver-installer.org/
