Someone else is facing similar problems with Crucial Ballistix RAM on an ASUS B550 motherboard. I upgraded from a 1700X to a 5800X and had trouble getting it to boot. My current setup includes a PSU, original Asus Strix B550 motherboard, and a MSI EK Seahawk RTX 2080. Previously, I used Crucial Ballistix RAM with GSKill Trident Z and MSI XMP support, but now it won’t power on at all. The board isn’t even showing up in the QVL, and no Q-LED lights are working. I’m trying different RAM sticks one by one, but nothing works. I was hoping to upgrade for better performance, but this is making me reconsider my plans.

Mystery resolved now that the board is using Ballistix RAM. It seems adjusting the CPU heatsink a bit too much prevents it from starting, especially with particular RAM types. I’m not sure why this matters for those specific sticks, but I’m tired of fixing things. I’m testing an EK EVO supremacy water block just in case others encounter this problem. Moving on to memory timings now...

Mystery resolved now that the board is using Ballistix RAM. It seems adjusting the CPU heatsink a bit too much prevents it from starting, especially with particular RAM types. Adjusting the mount for the heatsink didn’t fix the memory speed and timing problems. I plan to share my issue here and test your advice later. So far I’ve repositioned the CPU and heatsink, installed it properly without over-tightening, and followed the standard BIOS settings. If I stick with D.O.C.P and leave everything else unchanged, the system won’t boot. Changing RAM speed to 3600mhz works, but timings become too high (around CL26). I can lower it to about 24. I’ve tried speeds from 1.35 to 1.4v. Booting with 3200mhz and specific settings (16-18-18-38, FCLK 1600) seems stable. Would switching RAM brands be the next step? It’s strange this RAM isn’t delivering the promised speed, even though it looks fine. If stability holds at lower speeds, maybe the issue lies elsewhere. There’s also a chance the CPU itself might be faulty given the behavior.
