Hello everyone, I'm considering an upgrade for my NAS and came across refurbished drives from sellers. The prices look great, but I'm curious—what are the pros and cons? Thanks for the info.

Hard drive usage carries risks. It might offer affordable storage or lead to costly data loss. Whether you buy new or used, perform a complete badblocks check before adding them to a setup. If any fail or display SMART errors post-test, report them immediately. Even brand new drives can malfunction. For more details, refer to the guide at https://www.truenas.com/community/resour...esting.92/. These recommendations apply to various Linux distributions, and badblocks commands are compatible across platforms. Always test drives before deployment.

Mechanical tools last until they break, and used ones come with a cost that doesn’t always match their quality.
