Used a fan hub, resulting in the destruction of two motherboards.
Hello, I suspect there might have been an error with the setup or the hardware. This was my initial experience using a fan hub splitter. I connected it to the power supply and linked the smaller cable from the hub to a fan header on my motherboard. I expected the board to manage fan speeds, but perhaps that wasn’t the case. Initially, I added two 12V 0.27A server fans and turned on the system—the fans started spinning, yet I couldn’t adjust their speeds. Later, I connected two larger NZXT fans rated at 12V 0.35A. After a brief boot, the PSU clicked, causing all motherboard lights to flash and then shut down completely. At that moment I didn’t grasp the problem, so I repeated the process on another motherboard, which unfortunately destroyed it. I haven’t shared much online, but losing two boards was really disappointing. If anyone has insights, I’d appreciate knowing what went wrong, whether the motherboard survived, and what tests might help in a similar situation. I’m aware of the exact port where I connected the splitter, which could be useful. I also tried checking for a short circuit, but without clear understanding, my attempts were limited. Best regards, Tim
