Used 3090 worth it
Used 3090 worth it
I'm setting up a new PC for 3D rendering and video editing. My budget isn't very large, so I'm unsure if the best value graphic is available. I used a 3090 from 2021 for around 600 euros, which seems reasonable for big projects. Alternatively, a newer model with less VRAM might be better, such as a 5070 Ti, 4070 to Super or 4080.
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
Since you say you're on a budget, I have to ask, what sort of specs have you amassed? Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model.
On a side note, since the term budget is relative, what sort of a budget are you working with for your entire build if you didn't get the rest of the parts for said build? If your platform can't take advantage of the GPU, then there's little point in jumping for an offer that seems to good to beat. You would also need a reliably built 1.2KW PSU at the very least to power your entire system with the RTX3090 in it. No, I'm not kidding.
I used 3090 from 2021 for 600 euro seems like a decent choice.
Where are you located? Preferred site for purchase?
I'm building a new pc, for 3d rendering and video editing.
Might want to list all the app's that you'll be taxing the system with, without an etc in that sentence.
Yeah, should really have shared the specifications I'm planning to use.

Yeah, I'm in Denmark and checking out the Facebook marketplace and DBA.
A 3090 is likely the most efficient option for around 600 euros and it remains relevant for the future with its 24GB. The other cards may use less power but finding one near that price is unlikely, except possibly a 4070 which probably won’t match the 3090’s performance. You should consider your own needs before deciding. Good luck!
Don't purchase second-hand GPU through Facebook Marketplace. There are way too many scams and no warranty whatsoever there.
You may get a card that's on its last leg, or not even functioning at all and you won't be able to return or refund it.
On top of that, 3090s run VERY hot and nowadays that's a 4 year old card, so you may need to repaste it too, which is a pain as well that may end up being a disaster for someone who does it first time.
Other than that - if you have to - make sure you actually test this card yourself before you buy.
In my view, purchasing used GPUs on eBay tends to be the most secure option.
Concerning the cost of electricity in Denmark or elsewhere...
Mostly, let go of "energy efficiency."
Especially for those who stay up all night leaving lights and devices on.
It’s probably that whatever power a computer uses—whether gaming or not—can be saved by checking what else is consuming energy.
Where is the power being wasted?
Any device with a steady LED is using energy.
Understanding how much energy it uses means reading the manual and asking questions.
Just keep the big picture in mind.
I understand both perspectives. Video editing and 3D rendering can be fast-paced, prioritizing speed over cost, while also recognizing the value of using less power through efficient hardware and other sustainable practices.
