Use Ubuntu as your starting point for Linux.
Windows requires under 2GB of memory and Cortana can be hidden from the taskbar entirely. When Windows consumes over 2GB, it likely means you haven’t performed a clean installation. Don’t assume it’s just a user mistake with “Windows 10 is terrible.”
I experienced fewer problems compared to Windows 7, mainly due to driver issues. I’ve stayed with it and adapted well. I seldom use the start menu or side options, so most of what I need is already on my desktop.
I shared the same idea as you; Ubuntu was an excellent operating system. After about a day, I read "Best Linux Distro?"
Task manager > details. Before a full reset, it's wise to understand what you're working with. Usually, the problem lies in something already installed, so reinstalling might just bring you back to the starting point. With 8GB of storage, you should have some flexibility. Unless you're running GTA V, you probably won't run into major issues.
That's something I need to consider (likely need more tonight or tomorrow). Planning to add another 16Gb.
Besides the memory worries, there are other problems to consider. You can also see a clear picture by opening Task Manager, then Performance, and finally Resource Monitor. This shows what’s happening with your system right now—mostly Steam or Deluge running.
