I explored freeNAS, unRAID and similar options recently. I wondered if I could move games from my old desktop with a 1TB HDD to a newer laptop, using the desktop as a storage server while handling processing on the laptop. Would a NAS system be suitable or are there other alternatives? It feels a bit like running Nvidia GeForce Now in reverse.

However, in this scenario, the games would run through the older hardware components of the previous PC, which isn't ideal. Additionally, many of my games aren't available on Steam.
