Go directly to DBAN, it usually works well. It’s simple, fast, and runs without issues. Make sure you choose the USB drive, not the hard drive, to avoid mistakes.

I think I'll install DBAN onto a CD drive and check the results. Also, I'll make sure to disconnect all my drives from the PC so it only boots to DBAN with the target USB for formatting.
