You should remove the 15.10 drivers first, then use DDU to install the new AMD drivers. The program won’t boot into safe mode automatically—you’ll need to do it manually.

I just set up the Crimson drivers and left the old ones alone, and everything is functioning properly...

No problem at all, just skip uninstalling the old driver and use DDU to clean it up.

You don't have to uninstall old drivers. Simply download and install the new ones; the installer will handle removing the previous versions automatically.
