Huh? Once power is cut, I am pretty sure that's it for RAM's memory. Unless you are talking that short time between hitting power off and the caps fully dissipating their charge?

Sure, it might need around 15 minutes to finish clearing completely. I’m not sure if this process affects RAM usage right now.

Hey there, if your work involves handling data that could be targeted by bad actors stealing encryption keys from your computer memory, it’s smart to review your opsec from multiple perspectives. You’ll need clarity on how secure you really are before taking any further steps. You can’t be certain unless you prepare to defend against an EMP attack yourself.

I don’t have specific sources listed, but here’s a concise version: RAM is a volatile memory type used for active data storage by the CPU. Power loss causes data loss since RAM depends on continuous power supply.

It happens because sometimes data in RAM gets messed up, leading to problems. The best way to fix it is to hold the power button until the device powers off, then keep pressing for a few seconds—about ten counts. This isn’t recommended because shutting it down this way can cause updates to fail or even damage recent saves. The safest approach is to shut it down properly, turn the power off, and wait roughly 30 seconds to a minute for the capacitors to discharge, which should also reset the memory.

Blend it all together carefully. If someone tries to access the data before it disappears, they’ll struggle unless they have the means to reach the PC, disable the RAM, halt the data loss (like freezing the chip), and then use a tool to power on the chips and copy them. Facing such a threat usually means being forced into a situation where you’re left in a vulnerable position.

It seems the system isn't salvageable even after a restart.

This involves recovering data from RAM after a system restart. The article suggests that full cleaning isn't always necessary. You should consider how long to wait before turning on the PC and plan your isolation strategy between the two systems.
