Use a direct, reliable router for optimal performance.
Hi everyone, I'm looking for a simple, affordable router to handle the connection setup. Right now I have a Hitron modem (Shaw brand) providing wired internet to my desktop, and a Cat6 cable going up the stairs to an AC1900 Wi-Fi router for upstairs coverage. I'm planning to upgrade to 600 Mbps internet at a lower cost than Shaw's 300 Mbps service, which means I'll be replacing the whole Shaw combo of modem, router, and Wi-Fi gear. I need a straightforward dual-port router to route traffic from the modem to my desktop and then up to the upstairs Wi-Fi point.
If you think my "basic" needs are clear, maybe I can just leave the modem in place and rely on someone else's device—though that might limit control. Also, if I need to split the coax cable, what splintered options should I consider? Let me know your thoughts!
I don’t think it’s useful right now. I need a simple router model with multiple ports, about 1 GB per second, and not the clunky versions with built-in Wi-Fi. 2) Yes, cable internet uses coaxial cables. Locals seem to prefer wireless options over phone lines these days...except for fax machines!
A router directs IP addresses to divide a single connection. A wireless/lan combination model is not essential, yet many affordable routers with 1gbps speeds are available, while basic LAN-only devices are rare. I’m focusing on a simple router here. I understand the distinction between cable and DSL, and I was living before cable existed. Lol
Its widespread presence ensures strong dependability. Edit: it's also controlled!
