I don't recall hearing that before; setting a fixed voltage usually hurts performance. I'd prefer to lower it slightly by applying a negative offset. Some motherboards automatically increase the voltage beyond what's necessary for stability across all CPUs. Even identical models can need different voltage levels, so boards tend to default to the higher end plus a small margin.
