USB4 Type-C Problem
Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix X870E-E
CPU: AMD RYZEN 9800X3D
Device 1: Oyen Digital U34 Bolt USB4 external SSD
Device 2: ProGrade CFexpress Type A card reader (USB4)
I’m facing issues with the 40G USB port on my motherboard when connecting these devices. When the SSD or card reader is plugged in, they briefly show up for about two seconds before vanishing and reappearing. This behavior occurs even after switching to a different Type C port on the board. The SSD functions correctly on my MacBook, but the card reader fails in the 40G ports while it works fine in standard 10G ports. When I insert an older USB3 SSD, everything operates normally. It seems these USB4 ports aren’t functioning properly when used with a USB4 device. In Device Manager, no errors are visible regarding USB controllers (see attached image), and no driver updates were required after checking the ASUS driver hub. The BIOS is up to date as well. I’m unsure what else I should try.
I'm not certain about your issue, but I had a comparable problem with a USB3 external HDD. It turned out the drive was aging and drawing too much current from the port, which caused the IC in the dock to restart and made the HDD oscillate between being present and absent in your PC's memory. Would you like me to check it on another type of PC with a 40GB port?
