Hey! It sounds like you're trying to link your old computer to the internet using a USB Wi-Fi adapter. To make it work, you likely won't need special drivers unless your adapter isn't recognized by the system. Just ensure the adapter is properly connected and try again. If issues persist, check the device manager or contact support for your hardware.

Check if the item appears first. Regardless of your Windows version (Vista, XP or newer), it’s recommended for security to use it. Open the Start menu and search for Device Manager. You’ll need admin rights. The device should show up but with an exclamation mark next to it. Regarding drivers, this seems more likely a problem than hardware failure, since the computer wasn’t connected to the internet beforehand and can’t download any updates. Visit the manufacturer’s site for details; the model number is usually listed on the dongle.

Yes, you can save the driver installer on a USB stick and use it to install the software on your older computer.

These USB network adapters depend on drivers that must be obtained online, which isn't possible without an internet connection. Connect your computer via Ethernet to access the internet, or manually locate and install the appropriate drivers on another machine before transferring them to a USB drive for installation.

It identifies the USB dongle, yet it doesn't employ it for Wi-Fi purposes.

That was my thought as well. Since there isn’t an Ethernet cable connecting to the PC, I could visit the dongle’s site and install the drivers.

It seems like you're suggesting a straightforward approach. You might want to purchase a single Ethernet cable instead of dealing with USB cards or drivers.

Some adapters require specific models rather than automatic installation. Please specify the brand or model for better guidance.
