After obtaining the disc for Windows 8.1, you'll find a code inside along with the installation disc, and you just need to insert that code.

Yes, you're connecting a USB drive to install Windows, not running it directly from the USB itself.

I prefer not to buy an optical disk drive that can only be used once. I’ll be installing Windows from a USB drive instead.
