I just put in an RTX 3070Ti Phoenix and noticed some USB ports acting up randomly. When the GPU runs hard, my mouse stops working and won’t power back on until I restart. At first, I assumed I wasn’t getting enough power since the store said 700W was needed. With a 750W PSU, I wasn’t sure if I was over or under. After some thought, my main guess is that the old 10-year-old 80 PLUS Bronze PSU might be failing and isn’t delivering stable power. But I’m still unsure if both the PSU and motherboard are at fault. I think it’s time for a new PSU just in case. Right now there’s a good deal on Seasonic Titanium grade units—only a few dollars more than Platinum models. ChatGPT suggested maybe 650W would suffice instead of 750W. It didn’t say I needed less power, just that lower wattage doesn’t always mean a downgrade. I’m hoping this isn’t because the motherboard damaged my USB ports right after installation. That would be frustrating and avoidable. Current specs: Windows 10 64bit, AMD Ryzen 5 3600, DDR4 64GB, RTX 3070Ti, 750W PSU, 80PLUS Bronze board.

Yes, it sounds like a final option.

Buying a psu is a last resort Update the bios anyways who knows if that could be the problem But suspecting the psu here is quite reasonable cause afaik if volt starts dipping too much then some odd stuff can start happening. Well thats true for too high volt aswell cause when i was using a shit psu for my p5q the 80gb hdd kept flaking out and making odd noises (but its fine and still working atm after swapping to a better psu a couple years ago) cause psu ran 12v at 14v and 5v at 6v. But still do everything else first before buying another psu

They used to warn me not to change the BIOS settings unless it was really important, since mistakes can cause major issues. Now it seems much simpler.

Hello, I noticed you're using an older BIOS version. Consider updating it to improve compatibility. Many updates address stability issues and may resolve the problems you're facing. However, results aren't guaranteed—it could depend on whether the BIOS is outdated or if there are other factors involved. https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MAG-B550...WK/support

Make sure you're cautious and avoid making changes, as updates will continue to occur.

It makes sense to think about upgrading your PSU now. With the RTX 4000 series consuming a lot of power, you might need a more capable unit in about five or six years. Since the PSU was purchased in 2009, its remaining lifespan is uncertain.

That is a very old unit, reccomended to replace but not absolutely neccesary, problably still has a few years of life left As for a replacement id suggest buying used because discounts are massive (50%+ at times over new) with very minimal risk. As for model do your own research, tierlists are only a vague reference and you definitely shouldnt be overpaying (spending 20$+) just to get a tier up (ex buying a stupid overpriced RMx over something like the RMe or UD-GM) Also bios flashing is fine, if you manage to fuck it up the b550 tomahawk has a JTPM1 header (spi header) located right below the vrm on the left side of the board, seems like they just use SPI for their tpm modules, you can use that alongside some dupont female -> female jumpers and a ch341a to reflash your bios externally iirc that board also has a bios flashback so you can just use that to fix your bios since afaik its dumb and will flash regarless of corrupted bios or not

I've refreshed my BIOS and haven't seen any additional USB restarts yet. I haven't tested it under heavy stress, though I'm optimistic. Could the motherboard be struggling with the new GPU? This seems to be the first time I've updated a BIOS, so I'm not sure if this is unusual.
