Hey there, I’m facing a strange issue that hasn’t been seen before. My Dell XPS 15 is running smoothly over the past couple of years. Recently, I got a Vivo X Fold and wanted to clear out unnecessary apps. I connected it to my PC using the included cable and ran some ADB commands. When I turned on USB debugging, my laptop froze, crashed, and shut down instantly—like a power surge. After fixing it, it started working again but USB ports aren’t responding properly. I can still charge devices, use my dock, and connect displays, but USB drives, mice, the stream deck, and Ethernet adapter won’t work. I’ve tried resetting everything, updating drivers, and changing port connections, yet the problem persists. Could anyone explain what might be causing this?

Adjusted the section handling data processing. Possibly a misaligned pin or some unexpected noise in the port. I'm sending the USB power component through the data connections. It doesn't need to generate excessive heat, though it might have made a small noise.

Use a toothpick to gently wipe the USB port.

It seems I should have mentioned using only one port, but all three are now non-functional—this isn’t just a bent pin or debris in the port. Appreciate the advice! Maybe I can investigate how data is processed and address that issue if it’s feasible.

It seems there’s probably just one main data controller across all three USB ports. As a non-expert, I’m guessing the setup uses separate chips for USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 devices.

Alright, that clears things up. It might be best to bring it to a repair shop now. Appreciate the details.

You may want to share more details about the laptop before it failed. Knowing its condition could help determine if repairing it makes sense. Since it seems like a damaged chip, it might not be worth fixing. *Note: I didn’t know much about laptops or their age.*
