USB 3.1 connections are displaying as USB 2.0 devices, and duplicate ports are appearing as their 3.1 versions?
Hello, I bought an Oculus Quest 2 recently. It works fine overall, but it has led me into some puzzling issues. It began when I attempted to link it to my newly assembled PC. The Oculus software claims it’s connected via a USB 2.0 port, even though my motherboard (ASRock B365M Phantom Gaming 4) supports USB 3.1. I decided to investigate further and installed the Windows SDK so I could use USBView. It turns out USBView shows all the ports on my motherboard as only being able to use USB 2.0: yet Ports 17 through 24 list USB 3.0 as compatible. Interestingly, none of these correspond to any of the physical connections on my board. To put things into perspective, the board cost around $60 at Pawn America when new. Despite this confusion, it functions perfectly in other areas. What’s happening exactly? Thanks ahead.
USB 2.0 and 3.x operate together on any USB 3.x connection without conflict. A device may work under either standard or fail independently. Each port supports one protocol, with a matching "Companion Port Number" for the opposite type. USB 3.x hubs typically include a dedicated USB 2.0 hub separately. Data transfer between the two isn't possible, so mixing many USB 3.x ports with USB 2.0 equipment won't improve speed. The issue might stem from a faulty cable, where the 3.x signal quality isn't sufficient for a stable link.
Cripe. If this is the case, that means that both the cable included with my Quest 2 and the USB-A to C cable I purchased are both bad. I'll have to look around my place for another cable to test this. EDIT: Could there be a chance that the official Quest 2 Link cable would remedy this issue? I'd rather not blow $70 on a cable that may or may not fix this.
The cable provided with the Quest 2 supports USB2, which is typical. The item you purchased might be compatible as well. It’s important to verify you’re getting a USB3 connection.
